About the GWPC Puppy List
The GWPC Puppy List is open for all GWPC members to advertise their litter of German Wirehaired Pointer puppies.
In 2010 the GWPC Committee changed the format by which GWP litters are advertised and introduced the following ‘advertising levels’.
By introducing these levels the GWPC hopes to encourage breeders to take advantage of health testing. These levels are also designed to be helpful to potential purchasers.
‘Advertising Levels’
Level 1 – where the sire and dam of the litter have both had their hip scores and are DNA clear for vWD (by test or clear parentage). The ideal situation where the health status of both sire and dam can be evidenced by the breeder and stud dog owner Advertising on this list is free of charge.
Level 2 – where the dam is hip scored and DNA clear of vWD. Recognising that the dam’s status is always within the breeder’s control - this may not be always the case for the sire. Advertising on this list costs £15.
Level 3 – where only the sire or neither sire or dam have been tested. Advertising on this list costs £25.
“The GWP Club actively promotes ethical practice and clear guidelines to its members and prospective GWP owners. The full ‘Code of Ethics’ and ‘Further Guidelines’ are available on the GWP Club Website. The health testing of breeding stock for known conditions is encouraged. These should include as a minimum DNA tests for von Willibrands disease (vWD) and Hip x-rays and scoring under the BVA/Kennel Club scheme. Breeders advertising on this Puppy List are asked to state which, if any, of these tests have been carried out on the Sire and Dam of the litter so that prospective owners can make an informed homing decision in consultation with the breeders concerned”
