The German Wirehaired Pointer Club is the only Kennel Club registered breed club in the UK dedicated to the German Wirehaired Pointer (known in its homeland as the Deutsch Drahthaar). The GWP Club was established in the late 1970’s after the breed was re imported into the UK. The Club received Kennel Club status in the early 1980’s and is fully licensed to run Field Trials from Novice to Open standard, working tests, a Championship show and Open shows. The Club also runs regular seminars, training days, an annual ‘Meet the breed day’, produces 3 newsletters a year for members and a yearbook every few years for members (for sale to the general public).

The GWPC runs a breed rescue - a not for profit rescue run entirely by members and funded by donations. The Rescue deals with re homing unwanted and stray GWPs and also assists dogs in need in other Rescues along with offering advice if an owner is considering re homing their GWP and needs some training support and advice to avoid this. The GWPC Rescue does not in the norm deal with breeder rehomings.

The GWPC is run by a volunteer Committee that is elected yearly by the membership at the Club’s Annual General Meeting. On occasion other members maybe co-opted onto committee to assist with specific jobs.

Anyone with an interest in the breed and gundogs is welcome to join the GWPC. Membership is by application which is approved by the Committee. Membership subscriptions are paid yearly. Overseas members are also welcomed. All members must agreed to abide by the Club’s code of ethics and Club rules.
